First Nations Art of Robert Ulmann

Robert Ulmann was born in Zurich, Switzerland, December 16, 1927. He studied sculpture there and emigrated to Canada in 1956. He lived and worked as a stone mason in Ontario, Canada in the late 1960's. It was in the Canadian Arctic at Coppermine, while he was an artist adviser to the Inuit that he met and married an Australian lady by the name of Helen. They married in Yellowknife in 1967 and left Canada in 1968 for Warrnambool, Australia, where Robert became a very well known wildlife artist, noted for his sketches, illustrations and paintings of wildlife from around the world which included the Southern Right Whale. Robert Ulmann died in Warrnambool, November 1, 1999. His widow still resides in Warrnambool.
